Sola Christa is latin for “Christ Alone”.

There are many reasons why this statement which was first made 500 years ago is true. These are only a few to consider:

1. Christ said it about Himself, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6).

2. Christ is the Fulfillment of the entire Old Testament. Every single prophecy before Christ was fulfilled by Christ. He is the Messiah who was the Promise of God to come to earth to save the world. His birth was the revelation of Jesus which means “Savior” (Luke 4:21). Jesus declares in His hometown in Nazareth that He is the Messiah promised by Isaiah in chapter 61. That claim was given as the launch of His public ministry.

3. When Christ asked Peter who he thought Christ was, Peter answered “You are the Messiah, Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16).

4. Only one Person was ever conceived through a virgin by the power of the Holy Spirit – Jesus Christ was born fully human and fully God. No one else can make that claim.

5. Paul writes throughout the New Testament that Jesus Christ is God (Romans 9:5) and He created all life for Himself (Colossians 1:16).

6. John writes in Revelation 5:5 that the Only Person who can open the Scroll is the Lamb of God, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. No other person or being is worthy, Christ Alone.

There is no Plan B. Even when Jesus asked for another way at Golgotha, three times He asked. No other way was given by God the Father. Without Christ, the cross and the forgiveness purchased by Christ as a ransom for the sins of the world, we will die in our sins. Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22). Faith in Christ alone is God’s only Answer for the sins of the world.

Since Christ was God, He never sinned, therefore He was worthy to be our Substitute and die in our place. If He had sinned, He would have needed a Savior for Himself. Christ alone is the only Man who never sinned. No one else can claim that. He often referred to Himself as the Son of Man and the Son of God. Paul referred to Him as the New Adam. Every human being comes from the seed of Adam and every one will die. However, every human being born again through faith in Christ will not die but have eternal life (John3:16).

He who knew no sin, became sin so that through Him, we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21). We receive God’s divine nature by faith when we trust in Christ.

All of us, every single person, is guilty of sin and worthy of condemnation apart from Christ. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. All of us are imperfect. Only Christ is perfect.
