Christmas – A Divine Invitation with 4 Responses

Looking at Christmas as a “feel good event” rather than a “divine invitation” could be hazardous to your spiritual health.
Christ came to earth, that is a certainty not a fable. He came as part of a plan that was formed by God before time began.
He came as a Gift to be received by faith into the hearts of everyone who would believe in Him. Think of Christmas like a Seed that comes in the smallest, most seemingly insignificant form, an Infant. The Seed falls into the world as an invitation to come into the very depths of our being – it is truly an invasion of the human heart. The pregnancy depends on our response.

There will be four responses according to Jesus.

  1. Rejection – like a seed that bounces off hard infertile soil/heart, there is no response and Christmas has no effect. Unbelief. Infertility.
  2. Tolerated but Unlasting – like a seed that does take root at first, there is no root formation and the plant dies. This is the shallow soil/heart. Miscarriage.
  3. Choked – like a seed that does take root but is overcome by other concerns that overwhelm the plant. The materialistic Christmas heart could fall into this category. Weeds.
  4. Fruitful – like a seed that is received and nurtured, the plant grows up to produce love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness and gentleness. Fruitful.

Where is your heart this Christmas? The Holy Spirit says to look at the fruit in your life. Your response to Christmas truly affects the quality of your life and the destiny of your life.
Is anything more important than that? The Sower of the Seed is God and the Seed is God and the object of the Seed is every single person on earth (God’s creation).
Hearing the Christmas message is one thing. Believing the Christmas message is another.

The Parable of the Sower
That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
MATTHEW 13:1-9
